Chelsea have started the summer transfer window on the right foot. The club have already reinforced a number of areas in their squad. However, they are likely far from being done in the summer transfer window.
Newly appointed manager Xabi Alonso will look to add a few more names before the new season begins to give himself the best chance of winning trophies in his debut campaign with the Blues. In fact, it looks like the Spanish tactician has asked the club’s management to raid his former club, Bayer Leverkusen, for a talented youngster.
According to Bild (via Metro), Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Bundesliga giants Leverkusen for Kerim Alajbegovic. The 18-year-old has attracted interest from other top clubs like AC Milan and Atalanta. However, as things stand, the Blues are currently the favourites to win the race for the youngster’s signature.
The report further states that Chelsea are in direct contact with Leverkusen, and it is expected that an agreement can be reached by the end of this weekend.
Chelsea close to signing talented youngster Kerim Alajbegovic
Alajbegovic was still at Leverkusen’s youth academy when he caught the eye of Alonso who was serving as the manager of the Bundesliga side. Notably, the youngster is yet to break into Leverkusen’s senior side. However, that does not take away from the fact that the Bosnia and Herzegovina international is incredibly talented.
The 18-year-old spent last season at Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored 13 goals and provided four assists. With the right guidance, Alajbegovic could go on to become one of the best players in his position in the future. He would undoubtedly be a perfect addition to Chelsea’s current roster.
Anyway, Alonso is known for his ability to bring the best out of young players. So, it will be interesting to see if he can achieve the same at Chelsea. The management are doing their part by providing the manager with the ammunition he needs by signing new players. It is now up the Spanish tactician to start the new season all guns blazing.
