Real Madrid have struggled to find control in the middle of the park after the departure of their iconic players like Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro. Since then, there has been a gradual emergence of options in those crucial roles as the club have looked to fortify the midfield for the future with young talents.
However, some of them have failed to meet expectations. The same goes for Aurelien Tchouameni. Signed from AS Monaco for a €80 million fee plus add-ons, the Frenchman is now reportedly being considered for a transfer.
Although he had been part of Jose Mourinho’s plans, Real Madrid have now moved forward with the idea of cashing in on the Frenchman to pursue Spanish midfielder Rodri.
According to The Sun, Real Madrid are ready to let Aurelien Tchouameni go to Manchester United so the move can fund a swoop for Rodri.
The Spanish midfielder played a crucial role in leading his national team to World Cup glory and won the Golden Ball as the best player of the tournament.
Real Madrid Consider Cashing in for Midfield Revamp
The Ballon d’Or winner has played in 298 matches for Manchester City, recording 28 goals and 32 assists as a defensive midfielder. Adding his skill set and experience to the squad could provide masterful control in the middle of the park.
On the other hand, Tchouameni has enjoyed a significant presence in the legendary white shirt, registering a total of seven goals and eight assists in 195 appearances. However, it has not matched the impact and temperament that Casemiro brought to the pitch.
It has now become evident that Los Blancos are looking to move forward with major changes ahead of the upcoming season after failing to win any major trophies over the last two seasons, with only the Intercontinental Cup in 2024 to show for their efforts.
A major reshuffle has already taken place in defence after the club appointed Mourinho as their manager. Now, if they can add Rodri to the mix, this will start to look like a Champions League favourite again.
