Chelsea had a season to forget, with the club going trophyless other than the Club World Cup they won in the summer. It was certainly not a campaign fans would like to relive, as the club finished 10th in the Premier League. Fortunately, the Blues have taken some major steps in the right direction to improve their performances moving forward.
Chelsea have appointed Xabi Alonso as their new manager. The Spaniard is known for his success with a young squad at Bayer Leverkusen. It will be interesting to see if he can recreate that success at Stamford Bridge as well.
In the meantime, the Blues have also completed some major business since the summer transfer window opened. The signings of Morgan Rogers, Marco Palestra and Geovany Quenda have already been secured.
That said, it was quite obvious that Chelsea weren’t done yet and there were more moves in the pipeline. And rightly so, as it seems like another top player is now set to join the Blues.
Chelsea agree deal to sign Maxence Lacroix
The player in question is none other than Maxence Lacroix, who has been linked with Chelsea for quite some time now. Fabrizio Romano has given his stamp of approval by posting “Here we go” on Instagram.
The Italian journalist revealed that the French centre-back will join Chelsea after Crystal Palace accepted the Blues’ £52 million bid for the player. Additionally, he stated that no player exchange is included in the agreement, as Axel Disasi was not keen on a move to the Eagles.
Lacroix has emerged as one of the Premier League’s top defenders. He appeared in 55 matches across all competitions last season, scoring three goals and providing as many assists. At just 26 years old, the French international still has a long career ahead of him.
Alonso will certainly be pleased with this development. Defence has been one of the key areas where Chelsea have struggled in recent years. Whether this new signing can address that issue moving forward remains to be seen.
