Chelsea have played through the 2025–26 season with injuries to key individuals, which have majorly impacted the overall performance of the team to compete with the best. The midfield and defensive capabilities of the Blues have mostly been affected because of this.
So, finding opportunities to bolster both options has been one of the top priorities of the London club since the very beginning of this transfer window. However, there have still been no major signs or developments to acquire quality talent. Hence, choosing to recall people from loan is what they thought could be apt at this juncture.
According to Fabrice Hawkins, Mamadou Sarr is expected in London this Monday. Chelsea will terminate the loan of the Senegalese international to Strasbourg. Aaron Anselmino will go the other way and will be loaned to the French club.
Chelsea Prepare a Tactical Boost as Defensive Problems Continue
The biggest loser coming out of this situation might be none other than Anselmino, who was brought back from Borussia Dortmund only to be sent to Strasbourg.
The young Argentine started his career with Boca Juniors. After signing with the Blues, he still stayed on loan with them. He then finally made his appearance in the Club World Cup 2025 in the blue shirt for a single match, and was later loaned out to Borussia Dortmund in August 2025.
However, bringing in Sarr to Stamford Bridge could not only strengthen defensive depth. He was a standout at AFCON recently as Senegal won the competition, keeping a clean sheet in the final. The Chelsea defender played that entire game.
As a matter of fact, it has become essential for Liam Rosenior to bring back Sarr after Liverpool have gotten a deal done for Jeremy Jacquet, something Chelsea could not do despite having agreed personal terms with the defender some time back.
