Chelsea enter race against Real Madrid to sign Brazilian centre-back

The winter transfer window has nearly come to an end, and still many clubs are looking to make their final moves before the deadline. Similarly, Chelsea are also after a few individuals. However, there have been no major additions at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been in search of bolstering their options in defence. A centre-back who is able to build from the back and keep the opposition at bay under pressure is what they are seeking, which has been lacking a bit after Levi Colwill was sidelined due to an ACL injury.

The London club has been eager to sign Jeremy Jacquet in this winter window. However, things have not gone as planned with the French centre-back as negotiations with Rennes have proven tough, although the Blues have not completely given up just yet.

At the same time, Chelsea are now involved in a race with Spanish giants Real Madrid to get the signature of a Brazilian centre-back from Real Betis.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea lead the interest in Natan. The London club’smanagement has intensified its monitoring of the 24-year-old defender, who has become the breakout defensive star of La Liga this season.

There have been many promising displays showcased by the Brazilian this season. That has drawn the interest of not just Chelsea but  Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Newcastle United as well.

And as the Blues are constantly making moves for the best youngsters around the world, bringing in the 24-year-old Brazilian would be adjacent to the club’s transfer strategy.

Now it remains to see whether Chelsea put in an offer on the table against those big clubs to sign the Brazilian talent, or if they find the price tag unjustified compared to what the Seville club is expecting.
