Liverpool thrashed Qarabag FK 6–0 to finish the Champions League group stage in third position, which grants the club automatic qualification to the round of 16 of the tournament.

However, the happy mood of the Reds’ fans was somewhat dampened by a new injury sustained by Jeremie Frimpong. The young right-back hasn’t had the dream start many would have expected, mainly due to the fact that he has spent a fair amount of time on the sidelines since joining the Premier League champions.

Liverpool have now been handed a major challenge as they are without a natural option to cover the right-back position, with Conor Bradley also currently injured. This brings up the question of whether the Reds will make a last-minute signing, with very little time left before the winter transfer window closes.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was recently asked about the situation and how the club will proceed, to which he replied, as reported by Fabrizio Romano:

“Frimpong will be out for a period of time, yes. We as a club always make smart decisions”.

“We look at the long term; we don’t have 4 RBs and 12 No. 9s”.

Slot reveals Liverpool’s plan ahead after Frimpong suffers new injury

Liverpool bid goodbye to Trent Alexander-Arnold in the summer, who left on a free transfer after running down his contract and joined LaLiga side Real Madrid. In his place, Frimpong was brought in from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of around €40 million.

Unfortunately, injuries have greatly limited the 25-year-old’s playing time in a Reds shirt so far. Frimpong has appeared in 19 matches across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist. Anyway, this latest setback is expected to rule him out for an porlonged spell.

Liverpool do have the option of playing Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back, but that cannot be a permanent solution, as the Hungarian is better utilised in the midfield. As a result, they might have to sign a backup if things continue like this for much longer.

Nevertheless, the transfer window closes on February 2nd, so Liverpool will have to act quickly if they want to bring in a new right-back. But honestly speaking, there isn’t many good options available on the market at the moment, meaning they Reds may have to wait until the summer for a more suitable fit for the team.
