Chelsea could do with a few additions in the winter transfer window especially with the injury crisis they are going through. Recently the Blues have favoured young talents over experienced players.

That said, nothing could be more fruitful for Chelsea than targeting a proven talent who could play in multiple positions to add some depth to the squad and overcome their current injury troubles. It is a well known fact that Chelsea have been monitoring Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who could be a well-suited addition to Maresca’s plans.

However, the move didn’t progress last summer as Real Madrid had set a price tag of around €90–€100 million, making it unfeasible for Chelsea to approach the Brazilian talent. But it seems like the situation has changed since then.

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are reportedly willing to sell Rodrygo at the end of this year and could settle for a fee of around €50–€55 million.

If that is indeed Madrid’s plan, then finances should not be a constraint for the Blues to acquire him. Rodrygo has already shown glimpses of his talent on multiple occasions in the past and has Champions League experience that could come in handy for Chelsea in the future.

Xabi Alonso does not seem to find the Brazilian suitable for his current setup, which might be a possible reason for Real Madrid to let him leave at the end of this year. Moreover Rodrygo’s natural position is in the left-flank and Los Blancos already have Vinicius Jr for that role.

So far, he has featured in 12 matches this season, with most of his appearances coming as a substitute rather than as a starter. Keeping such a talented player on the bench seems unfair.

Rodrygo is undoubtedly a top-notch player. His skills and contributions under Carlo Ancelotti’s reign are proof of that. Now, let’s see whether the Chelsea management considers this a fair deal to pursue, or if they prefer to continue monitoring the situation further.
