Liverpool fans have been witnessing some dreadful performances from their team. Although Arne Slot’s brilliance has been tested on multiple occasions in the last season, his strategies seem to be failing lately, which is evident from the Reds’ four consecutive losses before picking up their win against Frankfurt.
While the management made some impressive acquisitions in the summer, a few individuals are yet to unlock their full potential. Moreover the Reds have also been struggling with a series of unprecedented injuries since the beginning of the season, although a few players have made early comebacks.
The team faced a major setback after Geovanni Leoni was sidelined for a long period in his debut match itself. The consistent availability of Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez also remain a concern, as both have had their fair share of injury troubles as well every now and then.
As a result adding a polished centre-back in the winter window has become a top priority for the Reds. However it looks like, Liverpool have been handed a major blow in the race to sign one of their top defensive targets.
Liverpool handed major setback in race to sign English international
According to Sky Sports Germany( via This Is Andield), Bayern Munich held a secret meeting with long-time Liverpool target, Marc Guehi’s agent as the Bundesliga giant look for a replacement for Dayot Upamecano.
It could be a major setback if the English international slips out of Liverpool’s hands having been on the verge of joining Anfield in the last transfer window. Though Guehi is in the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace and has no intention of extending his five-year stint, the competition has become increasingly difficult, with Manchester City and Real Madrid also keen on securing the player’s services.
So Liverpool will have to act quickly if they want to get this deal over the line once the window reopens in January. That said, being one of the most in-demand defenders this season, the final call will rest with Guehi, to decide which club best suits his future ambitions.
