After a decent start to the season, despite a few unprecedented injuries to key players, Chelsea are now regaining their momentum and successfully managing their tactics to dominate on the pitch.
Meanwhile, the Blues have had a mixed start to their Champions League run so far (1 win, 1 loss), but after winning three consecutive Premier League matches, they are set to welcome Ajax at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and seem quite hopeful of securing a victory in front of their fans.
Although the team’s recent performances have been a promising sign, there are still doubts if they have enough depth in the squad to keep up in the long run and ensure a successful campaign this season. With key defenders and midfielders expected to remain sidelined for most of the season, the club seem to have already started looking at potential candidates as backups.
Chelsea want to sign PSG superstar’s brother
The scouts have been exploring every possible option to make quality acquisitions in the next transfer window and reinforcing the positions most affected by injuries will be crucial. Now according to Caught Offside, the Blues have targeted Guéla Doué of R. Strasbourg and are reportedly leading the race to secure his signature.
The 23-year-old Ivorian has become one of the top targets to bolster Chelsea’s defensive lineup. His performances this season have drawn attention from several top European clubs, having already recorded one goal and two assists in just five appearances across all competitions. Notably Doue the brother of famous PSG winger Desire Doue.
Nevertheless, it is widely known that Strasbourg are owned by the same management as Chelsea, so agreeing to a deal for the €30 million‑rated defender won’t be much of an issue.
Doue’s primary position is the right-back position. The Blues do have options in Reece James, Malo Gusto and Josh Acheampong, who have been performing well and meeting Chelsea’s needs in that area. So it will be interesting to see where Enzo Maresca decides to deploy the player in case he joins.
