The last transfer window was one of the busiest for Tottenham Hotspur in recent times. The club secured a number of new players, including Xavi Simons, Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso among others. Additionally, Randal Kolo Muani has also been brought in on a season-long loan from PSG.

Meanwhile, ENIC Group have recently infused a hefty sum of £100 million in new funding to Tottenham. As a result, the club could make some more marquee signings as early as in the winter transfer window. Spurs’ interest in Antoine Semenyo is well known already. Now it seems the club are focusing on the defensive part of things as well with reports suggesting that Tottenham are keen to sign a highly rated centre-back in the winter window.

According to Caught Offside, Tottenham Hotspur are considering a January move for Mario Gila, with the Lazio centre-back emerging as a serious candidate to reinforce Thomas Frank’s defence.

Tottenham interested in former Real Madrid defender valued at €50m

Gila joined Lazio from Real Madrid Castilla in 2022. Since then, he has been a key figure in the Italian giants’ backline, appearing in 90 matches. The player’s contract with the club is set to expire in 2027, which could make him a potential target for interested clubs and may also prompt Lazio to consider a sale before he loses value.

However, Tottenham aren’t the only English club to have shown interest, with Crystal Palace, Brighton and Everton also linked with the player. So it won’t be an easy transfer to pull off.

Nevertheless, Lazio are said to be willing to let the player go for a sum of €45–50 million, which wouldn’t be an issue for Spurs. Gila can be an excellent backup option for Tottenham’s backline, which currently features centre-back duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. At just 25 years old, the Spaniard could also potentially nail down a starting spot further down the road at Spurs.
