The international break is often a dreaded period for club fans and management alike, as players frequently run the risk of picking up knocks while representing their countries. Unfortunately, that concern has now become a reality for Tottenham Hotspur, with one of their players being stretchered off the pitch during a recent match.
Following Spurs’ latest Premier League win against Leeds United, the majority of their squad departed for international duty with their respective national teams. This includes players like Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Cristian Romero, to name a few.
Now, reports have confirmed that one Tottenham player was forced off while representing his country. According to Football London, Spurs midfielder Yves Bissouma was taken off with an injury just moments into his first game of the season on Sunday night while playing for Mali.
The 29-year-old was brought into the game for his nation in the 66th minute but was soon stretchered off after he was unable to walk on the pitch.
Tottenham player suffers injury on international duty
Bissouma hasn’t been part of any of Tottenham’s matches this season so far, largely due to a knee injury and also some disciplinary issues. The player has just about nine months remaining on his contract with no extension planned.
The club tried to offload the Mali international in the summer but ultimately failed to do so. Meanwhile Tottenham’s new manager Thomas Frank has left Bissouma out of the Champions League squad for the group stage. Having suffered this new injury, the player will face further challenge getting into the main squad moving forward.
Anyway, by the looks of it, Bissouma’s days are limited at the club and he will in all probability leave next summer for free or maybe in the winter transfer window itself. It will be interesting to see if he gets to wear the Lilywhites jersey on one or two more occasions or if we have already seen the last of him for Tottenham.
