Manchester City currently find themselves in third position, thanks to back-to-back wins. The club have had no trouble finding the back of the net this season. They have already scored fourteen goals, which is the highest tally in the Premier League so far.

There has been a notable change up front for Manchester City, with Jeremy Doku now getting the lion’s share of minutes on the left wing. This is due to Jack Grealish moving to Everton on a season-long loan.

The English winger was signed from Aston Villa in 2021. However, he hasn’t quite delivered the output that was originally expected of him. Some might argue that Grealish lacked the creative freedom under Pep Guardiola’s tiki-taka system and while that may be true to some extent, it doesn’t tell the full story.

In fact, the winger himself recently admitted one of the reasons he didn’t succeed as much at Manchester City. Speaking with Sky Sports, the England international said:

“I want to be able to live my life as well and enjoy myself, but there’s a time and a place to do that.

“I’ll be honest with you, I probably haven’t picked the right times – sometimes at City, for example, I didn’t help myself at times, I’ll openly say that – but then I don’t think it was all down to that.

“People say to me, ‘what happened at City?’ But I had two good years there. The first year I was getting used to everything, going there for that amount of money, the pressure and just getting used to the way the manager wanted to play and the environment.

“The second year we won the treble and it was an unbelievable year. I loved it. The third year, I put that down to myself really and I feel like I didn’t do certain things right in that year.”

Jack Grealish admits mistake that hurt Manchester City career

Grealish seems to be slowly getting back to his best version at Everton, which is good news for Manchester City. He has already made seven appearances for the club and has provided four assists.

Manchester City have Grealish under contract until 2027, so there’s still a chance he could return to play in a sky-blue shirt next season especially with the Citizens currently having Doku as the only natural left-winger available to Guardiola.

Then again, Manchester City could also choose to invest in a new young left-winger and cash in on Grealish while there’s still time. Either way, that’s a story for another day. For now, the club should be focused on this campaign and continue to climb their way back to the top of the Premier League table.
