Manchester City have seen a major shuffle in their squad. On one hand, the club have added a number of new faces to the team. On the other, notable players like Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, and Manuel Akanji have departed the Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, the City need to keep an eye on the contract situation of some of their key players especially Phil Foden, whose current deal is set to expire in 2027. The Manchester City academy star inarguably had his worst season in the last campaign but has quickly dusted himself off and is slowly getting back to his best.
However, the Citizens risk losing him for free if he isn’t tied down to fresh terms soon. That explains the emerging reports suggesting that the club have set a timeline for discussions over a new agreement.
According to TBR Football, contract talks between Foden’s team and director of football Hugo Viana are due to take place in the upcoming international breaks.
Manchester City ready to hold talks over Phil Foden’s future
Foden has had an impressive start to the current season. He has appeared in five matches and has already racked up four goal involvements (two goals and two assists). So, the 25-year-old seems to have found his form once again, which is encouraging news.
Most recently Foden started against Huddersfield in Manchester City’s Carabao Cup match and contributed with a goal and an assist. Pep Guardiola has given a more central role to the versatile player on several occasions this season and the player has stepped up to the challenge well.
Fans will be delighted with this recent development, as the English international has been a part of Manchester City for a long time and has been involved in many of their successes, including the Champions League triumph in 2023. Hopefully, the club ties him down to a long-term contract as we’d all love to see more of Foden in the coming years.
