Although, Real Madrid won 2-1 over Rayo Vallecano, they have been criticized for their lackluster display on Sunday. They played poorly for the majority of the match, and only after Mbappe’s conversion of a penalty kick deep into second-half extra time they secured a narrow victory, keeping the Los Blancos one point behind La Liga leaders Barcelona.
Vinicius Jr also found the back of the net as he eventually opened the scoring with a lovely bit of play. However, they suffered a setback in the form of Jude Bellingham’s hamstring injury which will keep him on the sidelines for about a month.
There are certain areas that Madrid needs to improve if they wish to compete for major titles. They clearly need reinforcements on multiple areas, especially the midfield where they have struggled over the last 18 months, since Toni Kroos retired. Luka Modric’s departure last summer exacerbated the situation, with players like Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Fede Valverde struggling to raise their game to the required level.
The Spanish giants have already begun planning for this summer’s transfer window, with the midfield being a major priority. They have been linked with several highly-rated midfielders, including Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, Manchester City’s Rodri, and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
However, according to recent reports, Los Blancos appear to have turned towards another world-class option who would be a perfect fit for the team, but there’s a catch.
Real Madrid considering summer move for world-class PSG superstar
According to Diario AS, Real Madrid have identified Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha as a potential summer transfer target, as they believe the Portuguese midfielder ‘can make a difference’. However, due to the complexity of negotiating with the Ligue 1 giants, the club want the player and his representatives to make the first move.
Vitinha played an important role alongside Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves in PSG’s spectacular 2024–25 campaign, which saw them win the Coupe de France, Ligue 1, and the UEFA Champions League.
The Portuguese finished third in last year’s Ballon d’Or race and is one of Luis Enrique’s key players. He has scored 6 goals and provided 10 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season.
Vitinha would undoubtedly be an excellent addition to Alvaro Arbeloa’s squad, but it won’t be easy for Madrid to sign him. He will have three years left on his contract this summer, which means the French club is under no pressure to cash in on the Portuguese. As a result, the club wants Vitinha to push on joining, which would force PSG to enter into negotiations.
All things considered, one thing is certain though, that it won’t be a cheap acquisition for the Whites. That said, Vitinha has proven his worth at the highest level and could become a long-term solution for Los Blancos in midfield. It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will indeed target Vitinha this summer. Only time will tell.
