Manchester United are slowly building a formidable squad. They spent heavily in the summer transfer window and have already strengthened their attacking prowess following the signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matteus Cunha.
The results are already evident with Manchester United currently in seventh place and just a single point from the top four. If the Red Devils can keep producing these performances moving forward, fans could be looking at a pretty successful season.
Nevertheless, the club are already preparing to further bolster their squad next summer as there are still a number of positions that need reinforcements, especially the midfield area.
Manchester United have already been linked with a number of players including Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton among others. Now it looks like they have added another Premier League player to their list.
Manchester United set eyes on promising Wolves midfielder for January move
According to Record (via Give Me Sport), Ruben Amorim wants to reinforce Manchester United’s midfield in 2026 and is considering a move for Joao Gomes as soon as January.
The Brazilian international recently signed a new five year deal with Wolves in April, running until June 2030, but is still seen as a cheaper option compared to his alternatives.
Gomes has appeared in 14 matches this season for Wolves and has provided one assist. Apart from his primary role as a central midfielder, the 24 year old player can also operate in other areas in the middle of the park including as a defensive midfielder.
This will be a key factor to keep in mind for the Red Devils, as his ability to play as a defensive midfielder could help fill the void in that area if Casemiro ends up leaving Manchester United in the near future, which is looking increasingly likely by the day.
Anyway, there is still some time before the transfer window reopens in January, and the club must focus on the task at hand, which is aiming to break into the top four of the Premier League table before the end of the first half of the season and keep improving.
