Manchester City have emerged as a prime destination for top talents in recent years. Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, among others, have adorned the Sky Blue jersey and produced some memorable moments for the club.

That said, there have also been some talented individuals who failed to make a name for themselves at the club despite being highly rated. Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips certainly falls under that category. The former Leeds United player arrived at the Etihad as one of the best in the Premier League back in 2022.

However, his story so far has been far from perfect and has been disastrous, to be honest. As a result, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if the player permanently leaves in the next transfer window. But reports have now emerged claiming otherwise.

According to Football Insider, it is unlikely that Phillips will leave Manchester City on a permanent deal in the January transfer window, as interested clubs won’t have the necessary funds to make that happen. Instead, the former England international is expected to depart on loan before his future can be reassessed next summer.

Manchester City make final decision about Kalvin Phillips exit

Phillips joined Manchester City from Leeds United for a fee of €49 million. However, he has failed to secure a place under Pep Guardiola, largely due to the impressive performances by Rodri day in and day out. So there’s not much to really complain about.

Anyway, the England international has made just 32 appearances overall for the Citizens in all competitions so far and scored a single goal. He spent last season at Ipswich Town but has returned to Manchester City for this campaign. The 29-year-old even made an appearance for the Citizens against Huddersfield.

With Rodri and Mateo Kovacic both suffering from minor injury setbacks in recent times, could Phillips finally find his place in the Manchester City squad? Or is it too late for that to happen? It remains to be seen.
