Manchester City played out a disappointing 2–2 draw against Tottenham recently. Despite going into the half two goals up, the Citizens failed to stop a Tottenham comeback. As a result, the points gap to Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table has widened to six points.

City’s overall performance this season has been filled with ups and downs. Injuries have played a great part in that, coupled with the departure of some legendary players.

It is expected that the City board will bring in some reinforcements in the summer to address the situation. In fact, it looks like the club have already started keeping an eye on a Newcastle United superstar, if reports are to be believed.

According to The Sun, Arsenal are ‘monitoring’ Sandro Tonali and could move for him if he becomes available in the summer.

Questions have emerged regarding Tonali’s future at Newcastle recently, with reports even suggesting that an informal meeting took place between the player’s agent and Arsenal over a possible move.

Although the agent has denied any such meeting, a transfer cannot be ruled out entirely in the summer. Apart from Arsenal and Manchester City, Chelsea are also interested in the Italian midfielder.

Newcastle signed Tonali from AC Milan in 2023 for a fee of around €60.8 million. Since then, the 25-year-old has established himself as a regular in the Magpies’ midfield.

City’s Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has suffered from injuries recently and has failed to reach his past form, which has hurt the team. Therefore, Tonali could be an ideal signing.

The Italian international is already established in the Premier League and is still young, meaning he could be a long-term investment. That said, these are just speculations at this point, and only time will tell how this unfolds.
