Manchester City star Erling Haaland has been in blistering form, terrorising opposition defences. Whether for his club or country, it feels as if the Norwegian is scoring goals for fun at the moment.
Haaland is currently away from Manchester City, representing his country during the international break. The 25-year-old is performing incredibly there as well. In Norway’s most recent matchup against Israel, the prolific striker scored a hat-trick to guide his team to a 5-0 thumping victory.
With those three goals for his nation, Haaland’s tally has risen to 51. To make things even better for the fans, it seems the Norwegian has broken Brazilian legend Pele’s scoring record which is no easy feat.
According to Sports Illustrated, Haaland reached 50 goals after only 46 international matches, while Pele had achieved the same milestone in 49 games for Brazil. The Man City man became only the sixth male footballer to ever reach 50 international goals in fewer than 50 appearances, and the first to do so in 53 years.
Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland breaks Pele’s record
Haaland is currently also the top scorer of the Premier League with nine goals. If he can continue this goalscoring form, he could surely break multiple other records throughout his career.
Nevertheless, a number of news outlets have recently claimed that Real Madrid are actively looking to take Haaland away from the Etihad, which might be a cause for concern.
Although the player seems to be enjoying his life at Manchester City, the possibility of the Spanish giants making a move should be taken seriously especially at a time when their star Vinicius Junior is facing scrutiny over his performances and Los Blancos have failed to secure a new agreement with the Brazilian.
That said, Haaland does have a contract with the Citizens until 2034, which should act as a key deterrent for Real Madrid if they indeed make an approach. Moreover, City are in no mood to let their talisman leave.
Haaland is a Manchester City player for now and should stay that way as long as possible. He is already one of the best players in the world, if not the best in terms of goalscoring ability. He has already won a number of key silverware for the Citizens, and fans will certainly hope that many more are on the way.
