Despite winning the Premier League last year, Liverpool shook up the transfer market this summer with a record-breaking expenditure of more than £400m. They reinforced their attack with the arrivals of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz. However, they are reportedly eyeing another excellent player for next year.
Liverpool have had an excellent start to the new Premier League season, winning all five of their matches to top the table and set the pace early on. Furthermore, Arne Slot’s side also won their Champions League opener.
However, after Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz made moves from Anfield during the summer, and while Chiesa’s future also remains uncertain, Liverpool are seemingly already looking to strengthen their forward line ahead of 2026.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool are interested in signing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez as they value his versatility on the frontline. However, they will face competition from Barcelona, but the report suggests that the English champions appear to be in a better position to bring the Argentine star back to the Premier League.
Liverpool are looking to sign Atletico Madrid’s Argentine superstar Julian Alvarez
Barcelona sees the 25-year-old as a possible long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. They have already made exploratory contacts to test the waters for the Argentine, while Liverpool is preparing their approach as well. The Reds see Alvarez as a one-of-a-kind opportunity and are unwilling to pass it up, if reports coming out of Spain are accurate.
Alvarez joined Atletico Madrid from Manchester City last summer for around £81m, and he has since established himself as one of La Liga’s top players. He scored 29 goals and registered 7 assists across all competitions for Atletico last season. However, some questions have been raised about his long-term future there due to Diego Simeone’s habit of substituting him before games end and the club’s lacklustre results as well.
Although Liverpool have a strong front line, Alvarez’s signing will certainly benefit them, as he’s capable of playing as a centre forward or on either wing. He can cover wide areas and provide more depth. Furthermore, he has already won the Premier League with Manchester City. So, if the Reds are able to sign him next year, he will be a great addition.
