Liverpool finally ended their four-match Premier League losing streak with a win against a challenging Aston Villa side. The magnitude of this victory cannot be overstated as the Reds look to regain the top spot.

Nevertheless, among Liverpool’s many problems this season, their defensive troubles have also been a major concern. The Reds are unfortunately the team with the highest number of goals conceded among the top six sides in the campaign so far.

Meanwhile, newly arrived youngster Giovanni Leoni picked up an injury on his debut sadly and will be out for a long time. On the other hand, Ibrahima Konaté is being linked with a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer, which is concerning. As a result, signing a new centre-back has become a necessity for the club.

While Marc Guéhi is already on Liverpool’s radar, it looks like the Reds have set their sight on another candidate and have even started talks with the player.

According to Fichajes (via FootballTalk), Liverpool have identified Nico Schlotterbeck as a serious target to replace Konaté if he eventually leaves as a free agent next summer.

The Reds have reportedly already held ‘positive talks’ with the player’s representatives to persuade him to join the club. Liverpool are ready to spend around £44m to seal the deal next year.

Schlotterbeck has established himself as one of the best in his position in the Bundesliga over the years. He is a regular at Dortmund and has appeared in eight matches across all competitions this season.

There is no doubt that the German international would be a great addition to Liverpool’s squad. However, that remains a matter for the future. For now, the club must focus on the current season and their title defence.
