The performances of Liverpool have taken a major U-turn compared to the very beginning of the season. Already with five losses in 11 matches, the defending Premier League champions are currently stalled in eighth place on the table.

The Reds’ performances in other competitions have been comparatively better, especially their recent win against Real Madrid which gave fans hope that the club are still capable of securing victories against big clubs, despite their average run in the league.

However, their overall display this season suggests that the team might be in crisis. So, what could be a plausible way out? Would bringing in new talents during the January transfer window be feasible for the Reds, considering they already made some of the biggest signings during the summer?

While that idea cannot be ruled out yet it looks like Liverpool are also planning to bring back one of their loanees to Anfield to add some more depth. According to Mirror, Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott’s loan move to Aston Villa has not gone as earlier planned, and he could be recalled before the buyout clause is triggered.

Liverpool consider bringing talented youngster back from loan

The 22-year-old midfielder joined Villa Park this summer but has started only two out of seven appearances. While there have been glimpses of his potential as a talented midfielder, he doesn’t seem to be one of Unai Emery’s favorites. This could be a possible reason for his return to Anfield, as limited appearances mean the buy clause is unlikely to be activated.

There’s no doubt the Reds have produced some wonderful plays this season, but certain individuals seem to be lacking physicality—an issue that needs to be addressed quickly. The return of Elliott could help strengthen their midfield, especially in winning tackles and maintaining possession.

Although Liverpool are already planning several acquisitions, welcoming the English international back could be a win-win situation for all parties involved.

With all these reports, it will be intriguing for both fans and management to see what happens next. Let’s see whether Emery recognizes Elliott’s talent in the upcoming matches and decides to trigger the buy clause or keeps him on the bench increasing the likely hood of his return to Liverpool.
