Nearing the end of the winter transfer window, clubs are still trying to finalise their best options. Although it is the last week of the window, a few teams are still waiting to make a final move or two. So far, Chelsea have made no progress in signing any new first-team players, but they have overseen a few departures.
The Blues are eager to strengthen their options at centre-back and in midfield, and this could require significant spending to secure their desired targets. Therefore, parting ways with a few players could ease the situation and help them move forward with their planned signings.
On the other hand, teams like Jose Mourinho’s Benfica have shown their eagerness to sign a Chelsea prodigy, whose future at Stamford Bridge is a matter of uncertainty.
As reported by Record, Chelsea forward Tyrique George is attracting interest from Benfica, who have already made inquiries to gauge the conditions for a possible deal. However, the Portuguese club are unlikely to proceed, as the English team is setting the bar too high, especially given that several other clubs are interested in the England under-21 international as well.
Jose Mourinho’s Benfica made enquiry for Chelsea player
The English youngster was promoted to the first team during the 2024–25 season and impressed under manager Enzo Maresca. So far, he has contributed 6 goals and 6 assists in 37 appearances. He has not featured at all since the arrival of Liam Rosenior.
The 19-year-old was close to an exit last summer, but the move collapsed towards the end. However, interest in the English international continues to grow. Alongside Benfica, Premier League giants Manchester United have also been linked with him.
Chelsea have often been keen on securing large transfer fees for academy graduates. In the past, we have seen with players like Mason Mount, Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher, Tammy Abraham, and many others. But does George’s name carry enough weight to justify a significant transfer fee.
He has already been linked with several clubs, and after interest from Benfica and Manchester United, it remains to be seen what kind of a transfer fee Chelsea will want to part ways with him. Will these clubs offer enough for the Blues to let him go, or will they instead consider a loan move in the near future?
