Liverpool had a busy summer transfer window that saw them bring in some big names to the club including Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. However, on the other hand, the Reds were forced to let go of their star player Trent Alexander Arnold, who ran down his contract and joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Unsurprisingly, fans were not too happy about this and made their feelings clear towards the English international when Liverpool beat Real Madrid recently at Anfield.
Meanwhile, it is a well known fact by now that the Reds might face a similar situation next summer as well if Ibrahim Konate does not agree to a new deal, as this is the last year of his contract with the club.
So the club management are trying their best to tie down the player on a new agreement before it is too late. Now, after months of speculation, the French centre back has finally spoken about his future at the club.
According to Sky Sports News Konate has said:
“I’ve seen a lot of things, particularly in the media. I saw that Liverpool made me a new offer recently.
“I don’t know where that information comes from, but now my agents are still discussing with Liverpool. I hope my decision will be made and I’ll be able to announce what I’ll do very soon.”
Ibrahim Konate opens up about his future at Liverpool
Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021. Since then he has emerged as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. As a result, a number of top clubs including Liverpool and Bayern Munich have shown interest in the player.
This season, Konate has been an undisputed starter at the heart of defence for the Reds alongside Virgil van Dijk and so far has appeared in all 16 matches.
Nevertheless, it is always hoped that the 26 year old stays at Liverpool for a long time. However, even if he leaves, the Reds have already identified Marc Guehi as his replacement and have also signed highly-talented youngster Giovanni Leoni in the last transfer window. Anyway, for now let us just wait and watch what the future holds.
