Manchester City are having a roller coaster of a season. One day they look like the team that is slated to get their hands on the Premier League trophy once again, and the next, the Citizens are all out of sorts and losing against easy opponents.

Pep Guardiola seems to still be figuring out certain things in the squad, especially after the addition of some new faces to the club in the past two transfer windows and the departure of stars like Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker.

Meanwhile, among the current players registered with Manchester City, one individual seems to have pushing to leave and return to his former club. The player in question is Claudio Echeverri. The Argentine is on loan at Bayer Leverkusen as of now, but trouble may be brewing regarding the youngster’s future.

Argentine journalist Renzo Pantich (via Sports Witness) has recently stated in a report that:

“Echeverri wants to return to River and has begun to apply pressure from his side,”

River Plate are yet to take any action, as the club reportedly didn’t see this coming and have been taken off guard by a recent post of Echeverri hinting at an exit to return to Argentina.

Manchester City brought Echeverri from River Plate in January 2024 for an estimated fee of €18.5 million. The youngster has since spent almost all of his time on loan, first to his former club River Plate, and is currently sent to Bayer Leverkusen this season.

Echeverri has played just 127 minutes on the pitch across 6 matches for the Bundesliga side this season and has provided an assist. However, if reports are true, the 19-year-old might not be enjoying life in Germany. In fact, the player was left out of the squad for Leverkusen’s cup match against second-tier side Paderborn recently, which might have further fueled his frustration.

While it is understandable that Echeverri wants to play as much as possible, he should also learn to patiently wait for opportunities, particularly if he dreams of playing for Manchester City in the future. That said, it is too early to point fingers at anyone or criticise just yet. Let’s wait and watch how this situation develops.
