After spending almost £282 million during the summer transfer window in fresh recruits, Chelsea sits only behind Liverpool in the overall spendings list amongst Premier league sides.
The Blues signed players like Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho in order to revamp the squad for the grueling season ahead and right at the start of the campaign, Chelsea were looking like the team to beat but after a couple of matches into the league, injuries came into play and it all seemed like last season all over again.
Chelsea’s defence has been a major concern as Levi Colwill might not be fit for action for the rest of the season and minor injuries of Josh Acheampong, Benoît Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and skipper Reece James have been problem for the Blues recently.
Chelsea’s plans for the upcoming transfer window might dishearten fans
With the given situation, there might be some panic buys during the winter transfer window but according to Athletic’s David Ornstein (Via: The Chelsea Chronicle) the Blues might not be involved in the next transfer window at the moment as he said, “You’ve got Chalobah returning from suspension. You have Fofana not far off being back from concussion, was it? So this season I’ve got every expectation that they’re well covered.”
They also know a promising young centre-back will be arriving in the summer, as Ornstein points out: “And of course, one of the players that came in was [Mamadou] Sarr, who then has gone to Strasbourg and then who would be coming into Chelsea presumably next summer. And therefore, I don’t think that’s an area of focus for them heading towards January.”
As reports suggest, Acheampong, Badiashile and Fofana are all expected to return after the international break and before the winter transfer window begins there would be another international break in November which would give Chelsea ample amount of time to regroup before the turn of the year and hopefully for the Blues faithful this new looking squad will give results before the season culminates.
