It has been absolutely dreadful for Chelsea fans to witness the unwelcome injuries to the players after a slow start to the season. And many setbacks to the squad have left them in a poor position when it comes to competing for trophies this season.
Too many sudden injuries have haunted the Blues and have imparted a tough challenge to Enzo Maresca, who has had to make significant reshuffles in strategy. And it is high time for the management to bring in more talent to negate the unforeseen occurrence.
Chelsea had previously tried to bring in Xavi Simons and Fermin Lopez to strengthen their midfield but failed. Now, with players like Cole Palmer and Dario Essugo sidelined with injuries, and Romeo Lavia constantly dealing with them as well, the need to make additions there has become evident.
In the meantime, the West London club appear to have its eyes set on another midfielder playing in La Liga after recent links to Lopez and Eduardo Camavinga.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea are preparing a bid of around €70 million for Pablo Barrios of Atletico Madrid this coming transfer window.
Chelsea looking to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder and preparing significant bid
The former Real Madrid youth academy prodigy has now become a starter for city rivals Atletico Madrid. The 22-year-old has already appeared in 114 matches with 10 goals and with significantly increasing appearances each year.
The Spanish talent has huge potential to become a complete midfielder. He is a midfielder with a huge work rate for gaining back possession, alongside genuine quality going forward as well and acquiring him could also complement the synergy of Enzo Maresca’s system.
Although it would not be an easy run for Chelsea as Bayern Munich are also eyeing Barrios. Further, Atletico Madrid are not eager to part with the Spaniard as he has a contract until 2030. Let’s see, would the €70 million be enough to sign the Spanish international or would they have to raise the bar?
