To dominate at the top level, approaching and signing talents at an early phase of their development has always been crucial for clubs. But it has become even more important today, with transfer fees on a constant rise. As a result, the scouts of Chelsea seem to be targeting an 18-year-old talent from River Plate.
Lately, the club have focused on creating more options in their attack, so signing this future star would build a pathway to develop creativity and new options around Cole Palmer.
But according to Soy Del Millo, Ian Subiabre has also been approached by the Spanish giants Barcelona alongside Chelsea. As the youngster is running out of contract at the end of 2026, his club have been trying every possible move to extend his deal further.
Subiabre’s wanted by both Chelsea and Barcelona
The Blues have been eyeing the talent from River Plate since the beginning of 2025. Although nothing major worked out during the summer, the situation has once again gained interest. Unfortunately for Chelsea, Barcelona’s interest in Subiabre throws a twist in this transfer tale.
So far, the Argentine has appeared in 19 matches, scoring one goal and providing one assist. Although modest, these stats highlight his potential and hint at what he could bring to European football in the near future.
Yet nothing feels concrete, as River Plate are contemplating establishing him as their next superstar by setting his release clause at a whopping €100 million, especially after Franco Mastantuono parted ways in the summer for Real Madrid.
Although, in the end, nothing matters unless it aligns with where his heart wants to go. Will the player settle his future in the Argentine league by signing an extension, or will he explore his options with the giants of Europe, like so many have chosen to do before him?
